Built for carriers that should have had this years ago.
The insurance industry has had the same policy-admin problem for decades: platforms built for large carriers at enterprise prices, or spreadsheets that break at scale. Irys was built to close that gap.
Margeaux Giles — CEO & Co-Founder
Margeaux Giles spent the decade before founding Irys working inside commercial-lines carrier and insurtech operations in Texas. She ran policy-admin modernisation engagements for mid-size carriers — the kind writing $20M–$60M in direct written premium — and watched the same failure pattern play out repeatedly: the carrier would spend six to twelve months evaluating enterprise systems, get a Guidewire implementation quote that ran into seven figures before the first line of configuration work, and then either abandon the project or continue managing policy admin from a spreadsheet that had been patched and re-patched since the mid-2000s.
The reinsurance side was worse. Carriers that had moved their quoting workflow forward were still compiling quarterly bordereau by exporting data from the policy system into Excel, reconciling against treaty terms manually, and emailing the result to their reinsurer. A process that could take two weeks and had a meaningful chance of error during high-claim periods.
She founded Irys in Austin in 2024 with co-founder Daniel Reyes. The founding thesis: commercial-lines policy administration — quoting, endorsement, FNOL, and treaty reinsurance — could run in a single cloud-native platform priced and scoped for carriers writing under $100M in DWP. Not a stripped-down version of an enterprise system. A platform built for that segment from the ground up.
"I built Irys because carriers were either overpaying for Guidewire or running policy admin on Excel. There is a better way — and it shouldn't require a six-figure implementation engagement to find out."
Margeaux leads product direction, carrier relationships, and platform architecture at Irys. She holds CPCU designation and has worked with commercial-lines carriers in Texas, Oklahoma, and the Midwest markets. Austin's proximity to large Texas commercial-lines markets — and its depth of insurtech and fintech engineering talent — drove the decision to build here.
Close the policy-admin gap for small commercial-lines carriers.
The US commercial insurance market has hundreds of small and mid-size carriers writing between $5M and $100M in direct written premium. They are writing real commercial risk — truckers, general contractors, specialty property, inland marine — against treaty reinsurance structures that require proper cession accounting. They are not small operations. They are under-served by software that was priced and sized for the top 50.
Irys is built for exactly this segment. Quoting against ISO class-code rate tables. Endorsements that update the policy ledger and the reinsurance cession in the same transaction. FNOL that pulls coverage data from the bound policy automatically. Treaty bordereau that is generated, not compiled. That is the gap we are closing.
A focused team. A specific problem.
Irys is a bootstrapped company founded in 2024, operating out of downtown Austin. The team is small — five people at founding — with backgrounds in commercial-lines carrier operations, insurtech platform engineering, and reinsurance administration. We are not building a general-purpose insurance platform. We are building the policy-admin stack for carriers that are too large for manual processes and too small for Guidewire.
Every demo is with Margeaux or a senior team member. Every support issue is handled by someone who has sat inside a carrier ops team and understands what a reinsurance treaty renewal actually involves. We do not route carrier questions through a generic support queue.
